About

van Buul Gallery

Van Buul Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located at the historic Denneweg 126 in The Hague, founded by Christine van Buul Stams.
The gallery presents a confident and distinctive voice within the international contemporary art landscape, combining thoughtful curation with an open and welcoming approach to collecting. Grounded in quality, authenticity and artistic development, van Buul Gallery is dedicated to artists whose work reflects life today in ways that are reflective, experimental and visually compelling.

From Art Advisory to Gallery

The founding of van Buul Gallery marks a natural next step in Christine’s career. While art advisory allowed for close and personal relationships with collectors, a physical gallery space offered the freedom to build a long-term vision. The gallery enables her to curate without compromise, support sustainable artistic careers and actively engage in the international art fair circuit.

Christine works with both emerging artists fresh from art academies and artists with museum recognition, approaching each with the same level of care and seriousness. Artistic quality, in her view, is never defined by status but by integrity, research and emotional resonance.

Location: Denneweg, The Hague

Located on the Denneweg 126, one of the oldest streets in The Hague, the gallery is surrounded by boutiques, craftsmanship, cultural institutions and refined hospitality. The location reflects the gallery’s values of authenticity, tradition and contemporary relevance. The Hague’s international character and global institutions provide a strong foundation for the gallery’s international ambitions.

A Living Platform for Contemporary Art

More than a commercial space, van Buul Gallery functions as a platform for discovery, dialogue and artistic exchange. Through carefully curated exhibitions, international partnerships and a strong curatorial identity, the gallery contributes to the ongoing contemporary art discourse.

Visitors to van Buul Gallery are invited to slow down, engage their senses and experience art beyond daily routines, leaving with curiosity, inspiration and a deeper connection to contemporary artistic expression.

Christine van Buul

Founder: Christine van Buul Stams

Christine van Buul Stams has a deep personal and professional connection to The Hague. Born and raised in the city, she grew up surrounded by art, culture and critical dialogue. Museum visits, exhibitions and international cinema were a natural part of everyday life from an early age. Raised by parents who were closely engaged with art as collectors, purists and professionals, Christine developed a strong sensitivity to quality, material and conceptual depth.

Although she initially chose a more stable path focused on family life, her connection to art never faded. Over time, her return to the art world became both inevitable and deliberate. In a relatively short period, Christine established herself as a respected art advisor and curator, known for her clear signature, intuitive approach and ability to connect emerging talent with established collectors.

Vision and Identity

van Buul Gallery presents itself as youthful, refined and contemporary, often described as fine urban. The program focuses on artists who translate universal emotions and ideas into strong visual languages, working across painting, sculpture, objects and cross media practices. Particular emphasis is placed on craftsmanship, experimentation and material research, with a clear preference for long term artistic development over production driven work.

In Christine’s vision, collecting should be joyful and accessible without losing depth or quality. van Buul Gallery aims to be a place where both seasoned collectors and first time buyers feel at ease, inspired and encouraged to build meaningful collections.

International Outlook and Collaboration

Van Buul Gallery has a strong international orientation and actively collaborates with galleries abroad while participating in art fairs across Europe and beyond. Recent projects include international group exhibitions and collaborations with galleries in cities such as Paris and Tokyo. Building lasting connections between artists, collectors and institutions lies at the heart of the gallery’s mission.

Christine believes that growth should be shared. Together with its artists, the gallery develops international opportunities step by step, expanding visibility in cities such as Brussels, Paris, Basel, London, Jakarta, Singapore, New York and Miami.
